Someone (was it William Wordsworth?) once described the Lake District as The Most Beautiful Corner of England...
...and I have to agree. It's the place where I was brought up and it's the place I go back to, time and again.
On this website you'll find information about A Place in the Lakes, a bolt-hole in the Lake District National Park which is ideal for short breaks and weekends away. It's not on any booking sites, but it is available to friends (if you're reading this that's YOU!).
Here you'll also find pages listing some of the best things to see and do on a visit to the Lakes, along with great places to eat and drink (I've done the research for you!). So have a browse and give me a call if you'd like to stay.

LOCATION
The hamlet of Backbarrow is at the southern tip of Windermere. To the north are the picture-postcard villages of Ambleside, Windermere, Coniston, Hawkshead and Grasmere, with Cartmel, Ulverston and the sands of Morecambe Bay to the south.

THE PLACE
The Ironworks Building stands next to the river Leven, with a terrace overlooking the water. Built six years ago, it mixes traditional Lake District looks with modern comforts. It's on a private road too, so there's no through-traffic, making the area very quiet.
The living room
The apartment is on the ground floor, is double-aspect and has new furnishings & equipment throughout.
The living room has a sofa bed, armchair, radio, free-to-air TV and high speed wifi.
Floor to ceiling windows and doors lead to your own east-facing outdoor space with views of the river below.
The bathroom
The bathroom has a rain shower over a full size bath, with slate tiling, basin, towels, soaps and a mirrored cabinet.
The kitchen
The kitchen is fully equipped with an induction hob & oven, fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine.
The bar-style table doubles as a place to eat and a work station, with two stools and power sockets.
The kitchen is full of natural light and leads out onto its own west-facing outdoor space.
Outside
There are two outside spaces: one is off the kitchen; the other overlooks the river and has a table & chairs.
The bedroom
The bedroom has a new double bed, mattress, duvet, linens, bedside lighting and cabinets.
The two built-in wardrobes have plenty of shelves and hangers so there's lots of storage space.
The Ironworks Building is in a very quiet area and all the windows are double glazed, so you'll sleep well!
Parking
There's free onsite parking for one car in your own numbered space (see the map on the 'Your Stay' page).
